To change between pictures take your mouse cursor over the links (IFF or Happinet) and wait for a while for the picture to change (will depend a lot on your connection speed). By clicking on the links you can see bigger images which help spotting the differences between the two transfers.
As far as I am concerned the Happinet Pictures release from Japan is a clear winner despite being interlaced PAL to NTSC transfer (causing problems with movement), appearing somewhat softer and being over 4 years older. It simply looks much more better and natural when viewing on my HD display. The similarity of the transfers makes me believe that both companies probably used the same source for their discs but IIF tried to make it look better and instead made it worse. Take a look at this first comparison example, zoomed in 4x, click on the image to see it bigger. It clearly shows the problems with the IIF transfer. Compare the tip of her nose, ear, hair, neck, chin, clothes whatever. And looks like some EE thrown in. The later non zoomed pictures might make it look as if the IIF is the better of the two but in motion with good equipment it clearly isn’t.
Then again, neither of them is good and nothing else exists as far as I know.

Here’s a scene where Annie is looking out of an airplane. Take notice that I have cropped the black bars of the Japanese disc somewhat to make the images the same sizes for easier comparison. The scene on the Japanese disc is grainy and has quite a lot of scratches and stuff but on the Italian disc it has been scrubbed clean with even boats and other stuff missing and the buildings in the town look horrible. Easy victory for the Japanese disc as I really hate this kind of filtering.
